Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery Department is putting in utmost efforts in treatments on the foundation of abundant clinical experiences acquired by diagnostic and surgically treating external wounds, tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, functional abnormalities and congenital diseases, etc. that may be present in the brain through the application of most advanced medical equipment. Cerebrovascular surgery – Executes diagnosis and drug therapy as well as endovascular surgery, etc. for cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral aneurysm and cerebral arteriovenous malformation, etc. Brain tumor surgery – Diagnosis and treats brain tumors, and is in charge of substantial portion of the treatment for brain tumor patients including controlling of epileptic seizure that frequently accompanies brain tumors, etc.

Key diseases

Cerebrovascular diseases (stroke), cerebral arteriovenous malformation, brain tumors, brain infections, epilepsy, head injuries, herniation of intervertebral disc, spinal stenosis, degenerative spine, spinal tumor, deformation of spinal blood vessels, thoracolumbar vertebral injuries and congenital diseases of nerve system, etc.

Key surgical procedures

Ligation of cerebral aneurysm, endovascular surgery and ventriculoperitoneal shunt, etc.

Key examinations

  • Computer Tomography (CT) – Examination that processes the images of cross-sections of internal aspects of human body for display in screen by recomposing the images generated by irradiating X-ray or ultrasonic waves from various angles through the use of computer
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – After having place human body in a large magnetic cabin that generates magnetic field, resonance of nucleus of hydrogen atom in the body is induced by generating high frequency wave. Differences in the signals generated by each of the tissues are measures for conversion into images by means of computer processing to examine abnormalities in the body.
  • Enhanced cerebrovascular angiography (4-vessel angiography) – Examination for the presence of abnormality in blood vessels of brain through X-ray imaging by infusing contrast medium into blood vessels in brain
  • Transcranial ultrasonography (Transcranial Doppler: TCD) – Examination to obtain information on the presence of occlusion and speed of blood flow in the blood vessels of brain by converting the sound wave reflected into images after having penetrated ultrasound wave, which is harmless to the body, into the body

Miscellaneous

Brain Tumor Clinic, Cerebrovascular Clinic and Stroke Clinic, etc. are being operated.
