Rehabilitation medicine

Introduction of the medical department

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is a field of medicine that promotes the functioning of people with reduced physical, mental, and social functions as much as possible due to numerous diseases and injuries such as cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, diabetes, cancer, traffic accidents, and industrial accidents, and provides appropriate diagnosis and evaluation. We provide treatment with the goal of improving the patient's function through treatment and ultimately improving the patient's quality of life. To achieve this goal, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Chosun University Hospital treats patients with specialized treatments such as stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disease, fracture and amputation pain, heart and lung disease, and exercise prescription for sports rehabilitation. We are doing our best to provide integrated treatment by expert faculty, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, exercise therapists, and social workers.

Major Diseases

We provide comprehensive rehabilitation treatment including speech therapy, occupational therapy, and exercise therapy to restore function of the paralyzed part of stroke and brain injury rehabilitation patients and reduce complications.
Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation In order to quickly recover the function of patients with spinal cord injury in the acute stage, to recover lost functions as much as possible, and to maximize the remaining muscle strength after injury, we provide prescriptions and consultations for orthotic devices and prosthetics necessary for rehabilitation.
In case of pain or neuromuscular disease, a nerve root degree test is performed to evaluate the patient's nerve and muscle condition. For efficient treatment of pain, special physical therapy, injection therapy, and cutting-edge physical therapy equipment are used. Self-exercise therapy and correct posture for daily life are performed. We provide treatment that includes education.
Sports health rehabilitation provides scientific and systematic testing and exercise rehabilitation for sports injuries, such as isokinetic exercise evaluation and cardiopulmonary exercise stress tests, for sports injuries from ordinary people who enjoy various sports for a healthy life to professional athletes. We provide rehabilitation treatment and education to help you maintain your health through exercise prescriptions for minimal and rapid recovery.

Major Treatment Room

  • Physical therapy - This is a treatment that uses equipment to facilitate recovery and rehabilitation of normal body functions after illness or injury.
  • Exercise therapy - Through professional rehabilitation exercise therapy, it can strengthen paralyzed muscles, improve whole-body endurance, and improve the ability to use physical senses used in exercise, allowing patients to move efficiently and apply them to daily life.
  • Occupational Therapy - Treatment that maximizes the independence of people with physical impairments, cognitive impairment, psychosocial dysfunction, developmental disabilities, and other disabilities, and maintains, prevents, and promotes function.
  • Speech therapy - We provide evaluation of language ability and speech therapy for patients with aphasia due to various diseases or injuries, as well as patients with language development delay and dysarthria.

Major Investigations

  • Electromyography - It is divided into nerve conduction test and needle electromyography test. It is a test performed to determine whether there are abnormalities in peripheral nerves, nerve junctions, and muscles by analyzing electrical signals generated in muscles and nerves. As a special test, it analyzes electrical signals in the brain cortex through somatosensory evoked potential testing, visual evoked potential testing, and motor evoked potential testing, which is helpful in the rehabilitation treatment of patients with central nervous system damage.
  • Musculoskeletal Ultrasound - Musculoskeletal ultrasound refers to an ultrasound examination that diagnoses abnormalities in the structures of the musculoskeletal system that move our body, such as joints, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, bursae, muscles, and nerves. It is especially useful for diagnosing soft tissue diseases excluding bones, and it is harmless to the human body as it does not use radiation.
  • Exercise stress test - Exercise stress test is a precise test that measures electrocardiogram (EKG) and respiratory gas (oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration) while walking or running on a treadmill. It predicts the degree of risk of cardiopulmonary function that occurs after exercise and measures the exercise capacity of the heart. This is a test to evaluate various cardiopulmonary function-related items such as pulmonary ventilation capacity, energy consumption, and maximum oxygen intake, and to provide exercise prescriptions according to the individual's cardiopulmonary capacity.
  • Basic Physical Fitness Test - This is a test that evaluates various health-related physical fitness factors and levels, suggests biological age, sets possible goals, and provides appropriate exercise treatment.
  • Muscle joint function test - This is a test that safely measures the maximum exercise capacity of each joint and objectively evaluates the current joint function status by comparing the difference in left and right muscle function with the standard values for each gender and age and sets the intensity of muscle exercise.
