Otolaryngology is a broad field of medicine in a very important part of the human body that deals with various diseases of the ear, nose, throat, outer ear, middle ear, inner ear, paranasal sinuses, face, neck, larynx, oral cavity and salivary glands, trachea, esophagus, and thyroid gland. The Department of Otolaryngology at Chosun University Hospital has 4 faculty members, 1 clinical professor, residents, nursing, public health, and office staff working together to faithfully carry out research and education as well as cure diseases. The Department of Otolaryngology at Chosun University Hospital, which is trusted for the best patient-centered, specialized care, is comprised of three departments: otology, rhinology, and head and neck surgery. It is performed by professors who strive to maintain the highest level in the country in each field provide specialized, specialized care.
In the field of otology, we diagnose and treat acute and chronic otitis media, facial nerve paralysis, and dizziness related to the sense of balance. We also use a variety of hearing test devices to early diagnose and treat hearing loss and tinnitus. As a treatment for the cause of hearing loss, we actively perform middle ear surgeries such as tympanic membrane transplantation and mastoid excision, as well as hearing aid prescriptions and cochlear implants as treatments for sensorineural hearing loss. For dizziness, we accurately diagnose and treat the cause of dizziness using advanced equipment such as video nystagmography and thermonystagmography. In the case of brain tumors occurring at the base of the skull, such as acoustic nerve tumors, surgical treatment is possible in cooperation with neurosurgery. do.
In the field of rhinology, accurate diagnosis, drug treatment, immunotherapy, and surgical therapy are performed for allergic diseases of the upper respiratory tract and nasal cavity. In particular, endoscopic surgery for sinusitis (sinusitis) and various sinonasal tumors, which have recently been in the spotlight, has been performed in the past. It has advantages such as less discomfort to the patient than conventional surgery and shorter hospitalization period. In addition, probe-free stereotaxic sinus endoscopic surgery using navigation not only reduces complications of sinusitis surgery, but also enables safe surgery. In addition, we provide patients with a variety of treatment methods tailored to their needs through systematic and objective tests for snoring and sleep apnea. Recently, as interest in not only the functional but also the cosmetic aspects of the nose has increased, our department also performs functional cosmetic surgery and facial plastic surgery for the nose that corrects not only the cosmetic but also the functional aspects.
In the head and neck area, we are continuing research on the occurrence and prevention of head and neck cancers such as thyroid cancer, laryngeal cancer, oral cancer, nasal cancer, tongue cancer, and tonsil cancer, and are accelerating the development of treatments. In particular, after removing the cancer, we perform reconstructive surgery using free flaps, etc., in collaboration with the plastic surgery department at our hospital to ensure that the damaged area can maintain its function even after the surgery. In order to maximize the treatment effect, in addition to surgery, anticancer drugs and radiation therapy are also performed in conjunction with the Department of Radiation Oncology and the Department of Hematology and Oncology. We also operate a speech language clinic to diagnose various diseases that can occur in the vocal cords and provide appropriate treatment.
The Department of Otolaryngology at Chosun University Hospital continues maintaining the highest level in Korea with medical and equipment that can compete with the ENT departments of leading hospitals around the world, and will continue to strive to become world-class.
