Emergency Medical department

Introduction of the medical department

Emergency medicine is a clinical field created to provide more comprehensive and effective treatment to emergency patients visiting emergency rooms.
Since it has been established in December 1994, the Department of Emergency Medicine at Chosun University Hospital is currently comprised of a total of 7 faculty members and 10 emergency medicine residents, and is responsible for treating approximately 30,000 emergency patients annually. The Chosun University Hospital Emergency Center was designated as the second trauma emergency medical center in the country in July 2005 and has been treating numerous disease and trauma patients. In order to provide efficient and systematic emergency medical care, an emergency medicine specialist is stationed 24 hours a day and he is in charge of emergency room treatment and management. We provide prompt medical treatment not only to patients in emergency medical conditions such as CPR, poisoning, and trauma, but also patients with various diseases in the fields of internal medicine and surgery. In addition, we work closely with patients having timely critical serious diseases, such as myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular disease, or severe trauma, to ensure rapid final treatment by linking them with the relevant specialty departments. In particular, through collaboration with trauma specialists at the Severe Trauma Center, we have established a system that can provide prompt and appropriate treatment to severe trauma patients.

Major Diseases

Emergency medicine is a field that specializes in emergency treatment for acute diseases, injuries, and mass disasters.
The first characteristic of emergency medicine is that it has a wide scope of practice across all clinical areas. However, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, shock, and poisoning can be said as specialized areas of emergency medicine. Emergency medicine is divided into specialties by disease and unlike other departments that provide both outpatient and inpatient treatment, it only handles treatment performed in the emergency room.
The second characteristic of emergency medicine that is related to this is that, unlike other fields that think disease-centered, it is a field that thinks centered on place and situation. Research on patient classification and treatment principles during mass disasters reflects these characteristics well.
The third characteristic is that while it is a field of medicine, it is also part of the social safety net called the emergency medical system. These characteristics are clearly evident in the guidance and supervision of pre-hospital emergency rescue activities such as 119 emergency services, fire academy, and basic lifesaving skills training for the general public.
