Organ transplant center

Introduction

Refers to surgery that replacing organ of a variety of end-stage organ disease patients who is difficult to recover from previous methods with a healthy organs of braindead and living donors. Since first successful kidney transplant in 1969, solid organs such as kidney, liver, pancreas, heart, lung, and tissue organs such as cornea, bone marrow, bone, ligament, cartilage, heart valves are transplanted currently.
At March of 1990 when Organ Transplant Center in Chosun university hospital found Organ Transplantation Committee, from 1996 Organ Transplant Coordinator manages various tasks relating organ transplant. Recently, conjunction with the University and the community, campaigns are enforced to vitalize organ donation. Moreover, actively engaging citizens through various media promotions.
After execution of Brain-dead law in February 2000, we were appointed as HOPO, organ transplant medical institution, and organ transplant registry agency and have been systematically operating brain-dead patients management and organ transplant related works.
Various successful transplants such as Living donor kidney transplant in 1991, brain dead kidney transplant in 1998, brain dead hepatic transplant in 1999, Living donor hepatic transplant in 2000, Corneal transplantation in 2002 were executed showing high success rate and bone marrow transplants are also showing good results. In addition, by forming a cooperation with national leading medical group hospitals in the transplant field, the success rate and postoperative management system of organ transplant surgery are alongside with the leaders of national health care.

Organ donor management
Counseling organ donors and registrate them to KONOS by signing Organ Donation Pledge.
Ÿ Counseling family of donor and organ donation availability considering ethical, social, legal, and administrative matters of cadaveric organ donors.
Ÿ Brain-dead inspection request and checking results, adjusting organ preparation (summon brain death determination committee, autopsy approval before harvesting, contact harvesting hospital), after harvesting cadaveric donor organs follow-up (Deliver body to family)
Consultation of deceased cornea donor and connection with ophthalmology.
Explains live donor transplant procedure, examination, request purity evaluation
Consultation of body donor and documentation distribution, contact anatomy when body donor occurred.
Organ transplant recipients management
Consultation of person in organ transplant waiting list, register at National organ transplant center.
Cadaveric organ transplant waiter HLA testing and requesting related tests, waiter HLA specimen renewal
Brain-dead inspection request and checking results, adjusting organ preparation (summon brain death determination committee, autopsy approval before harvesting, contact harvesting hospital), after harvesting cadaveric donor organs follow-up (Deliver body to family)

When living organ transplant, approval from National Organ Transplant Center, examination, preoperative education and admission control before transplantation surgery, check the status of transplant and education, education at discharge, follow up phone call for recipient after discharge.

Kidney
Receives a referral from a doctor or kidney transplant surgery physician.
Interview with the transplant coordinator.
Fill out own organ transplant waiting list registration and kidney transplant waiting list.
Pay the organ transplant waiting list registration and HLA test fees.
ŸSign up for the National Organ Transplant Management Agency (국립장기이식관리기관) through the Organ transplant center and granted kidney transplant waiting list registration number (ID)
ŸReceive specimen information form from Organ transplant center and draw blood from Outpatient laboratory or in artificial kidney center and pay the Green Cross specimen transfer.
ŸIn case of did not receive a transplant for two years, specimen information form from Organ transplant center and draw blood from Outpatient laboratory or in artificial kidney center and pay the Green Cross specimen transfer to renewal HLA specimen.
Liver
ŸReceive liver transplant waiting list form and doctors referral from Gastroenterology or transplant surgery department.
ŸInterview with the transplant coordinator.
Fill out own organ transplant waiting list registration.
Pay the transplant fee.
Sign up for the National Organ Transplant Management Agency (국립장기이식관리기관) through the Organ transplant center and granted liver transplant waiting list registration number (ID)
Cornea
Receive cornea transplant waiting list form and doctors referral from Ophthalmology.
Interview with the transplant coordinator.
Fill out own organ transplant waiting list registration.
Pay the transplant fee.
Sign up for the National Organ Transplant Management Agency (국립장기이식관리기관) through the Organ transplant center and granted cornea transplant waiting list registration number (ID)
